WHITMAN, March 4.—Mrs. Rilla (Cochran) Dourghety, 72, of 634 Temple street, this town, widow of John Dourghety, died at her home here to-day. She had been in failing health the past two years. She was employed for many years at Storey & Co., store in Brockton and was well liked by many friends.
She was born in Milltown, New Brunswick, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary Jane (MacRae) Cochran. She lived in the same house in Whitman for 11 years.
Mrs. Dougherty was a member of the Methodist church in Augusta, Me. She possessed a sterling Christian character and lived a kindly and useful life.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ellsworth, with whom she made her home in this town, two sons, William E. Dourghety of Haverhill and Charles R. of Dorchester; a sister, Mrs. Howard MacCleave of Hanson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 P. M. at the funeral home, 43 White avenue, Brockton, with interment in Calais cemetery, Calais, Me. Rev. Leonard C. Harris will officiate.

Joseph Young
STOUGHTON. — The funeral of Joseph Young, one of those who lost their lives by drowning off Scituate and whose home was at 12 Pinewood avenue, was held from the funeral home, 115 Monk street, Friday morning, followed by a solemn high mass of requiem in the Immaculate Conception church. Rev. William W. Gunn was celebrant, Rev. John P. Cosgrove, deacon, Rev. Mykolas Vembre, sub-deacon, Fr. Gunn offered prayers at the grave in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. The bearers were all members of the 5-1 Club of Stoughton of which he was a member and included Peter Leif, Gordon Bishop, Ivory Matthews, Harold W. Littlefield, Conrad Peterson, William Taylor.

NORTH ABINGTON, July 19.—The many friends of Ermin M. Gowell of 197 Plymouth street were shocked to learn of his sudden death while visiting friends at Lake Nippenickett in Bridgewater on Saturday. Mr. Gowell, who was a local contractor, stone mason and cement worker, conducted his own business and he had been subject to heart attacks recently. He was 54 years of age and was a native of this town and always resided here. He was the son of Lorenzo W. and Helen (Russell) Gowell and was a member of Winthrop Lodge, I. O. O. F., and of the Howard Club of Brockton.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine (Walker) Gowell; by two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Curtin of East Weymouth and Mrs. Irene Wilmarth of Quincy; by a grandson, and by a sister, Mrs. Bertha Hines of this town.
Funeral services will be held at his late residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial will be in Mount Vernon cemetery.

The funeral service for Hiram Irving Johnson of 160 Mulberry street, was held Friday in the funeral home, 309 Main street. Rev. Lester G. Myers of the Porter Congregational church officiated. Interment was in Coweeset cemetery. Many friends attended and there were lovely floral tributes. Miss Avis Wixon was at the organ. Bearers were Everett Kelley, Gene Willis, Gerard Duval, John Johnson, Jr., Howard Doane and Everett Doane, Jr.

Howard C. Leonard
Howard C. Leonard, 78, husband of Ethel (Whiting) Leonard, 60 Manners avenue, died Monday at his home.
He was employed as a wood worker by the E. Norris Brown Co. in East Bridgewater, until his retirement seven years ago because of ill health. He had lived in Brockton most of his life and was a former active member of Damocles Lodge, K of P. and served as its master at arms for many years.
His only survivor is his wife, Ethel M. (Whiting) Leonard.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 P. M. from the late residence with Rev. Berman Long officiating. Interment in Coweeset cemetery.

The funeral for George J. Carom of Lynn was held Thursday morning from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Khoury, of 13 River street. A high mass of requiem was sung at St. Theresa's church by Msgr. Mareb. Interment was in St. Jean Baptiste cemetery, Lynn. Bearers were Joseph Antoine, Thomas and James Khoury, Thomas and Stephen Webby and Chickery Mansour.

BROCKTON ― Attorney Walter J. MacDonald Sr., 88, a practicing lawyer in Brockton from 1924 to 1984, died Sunday evening at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Emma M. (Gies) MacDonald.
Born in Brockton, he was a 1917 graduate of Brockton High School and a graduate of Suffolk Law School.
He practiced with the firm of MacDonald and MacDonald until his retirement in 1984. He was also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
He was a member of the Plymouth County Bar Association and its grievance committee, and an honorary deputy sheriff in Plymouth County.
Mr. MacDonald was past president of Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a fourth degree member of Cardinal O'Conneil Knights of Columbus and its chancellor for many years.
He had been a CCD teacher at St. Edward's Church for more than 25 years. He was a member, former director and treasurer of the Point Independence Yacht Club in Onset, and a member of the Irish Historical Society of Boston and Ireland's Own of Brockton.
Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald observed their 57th wedding anniversary in June.
In addition to his wife, Mr. MacDonald leaves a son, attorney Walter J. MacDonald Jr. of Stoughton, a lieutenant in the Plymouth County Sheriff's office; a dsughter, Mrs. William (Joan M.) Davis of West Friendship, Md.; four grandchildren, William G. Davis Jr., Brian J. and Christopher M. Davis, all of Maryland, and Laurie Cope of California, a great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frederick and George MacDonald and Clara Brown.
The funeral will be at 8:15 a.m. Friday from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., Stoughton, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Edward's Church, Brockton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Charles R. Rockwood
Funeral services for Charles R. Rockwood, of 114 Newbury street, were conducted Friday afternoon in the funeral home, 188 Belmont street, by Rev. Charles D. Broadbent of the First Parish Congregational church. Interment was in Mt. Auburn cemetery, Hopkinton, where committal rites were conducted by members of John Warren Lodge, AF&AM in which Mr. Rockwood held a 50-year membership medal. They were conducted under direction of David E. Taylor, worshipful master and Lester E. Emerson, chaplain. Bearers from the lodge were Malcolm Wright and Kenneth Watson. A group of members from the lodge made the trip from Hopkinton to visit the funeral home. Members of other groups, with which Mr. Rockwood was affiliated, also visited the funeral home and attended the funeral services. Among them were members from Massasoit Lodge, AF&AM and from Maj. James A. Frye Camp, USWV.
