PFC Grippen Is Missing

When a telegram arrived at the home of Mrs. Clara C. Grippen, 90 Highland street, she thought it was from her son, PFC Nelson D. Grippen, notifying her of his return home, but instead it was from the war department notifying her that he was missing in action since July 7. No further details were given.

Mrs. Grippen had just received a letter from her son dated July 3, in which he wrote, "I expect to be home soon and you would be very surprised if you knew where I was writing this letter from."

Pvt Grippen was wounded last year in New Guinea and received the Purple Heart. He was shot through the left thigh by a bullet and was hospitalized for a long time.

PFC Grippen enlisted in the army in January, 1942, and went overseas in April of the same year. He was graduated from Brockton High school in 1934 and before entering the service was employed by Producers Dairy Co.
